How it works
CleverPan
Mono/Stereo-to-Mono/Stereo/LCR spatial panner for AAX,AU, and VST3. Place a mono or stereo source precisely in stereo space, near to far, with ITD binaural processing.
Overview
As sound editors and re-recording mixers, you naturally speak the language of the image. Your spatial design should seamlessly mirror the camera's eye—which is exactly why CleverPan introduces the concept of Focal alignment.
But cinematic storytelling isn't just about following the screen; it's about driving it.
Whether a scene demands absolute acoustic realism or bold narrative abstraction, CleverPan gives you total control over every single parameter. You choose when to lock onto the frame, and when to break the rules to serve the script.
Explore the breakthrough features below and discover how CleverPan elevates sound from simple panning to true narrative perspective.

Depth and lateral position are computed together — not as two separate controls layered on top of each other, but as a single spatial trajectory.
Distance, Not Just Direction
A regular pan only answers one question: left or right. CleverPan answers two questions at once: where, and how far. Move a sound away from the camera and it doesn't just shift across the stereo field — it recedes, the way a person walking down a corridor gets smaller and quieter as the door closes behind them.
Each focal mode reshapes stereo width, depth sensitivity and presence to match how close the camera actually is to the subject.
Speaks the Language of the Frame
Wide Shot, Medium Shot, Tight Shot, Close-Up — these aren't arbitrary presets. They're the same words your picture editor already uses. Pick the mode that matches the framing, and CleverPan translates it into the right acoustic behaviour automatically.
Extraction window: 10–50ms early reflections only. Zero convolution, zero reverb tail — pure spatial signature.
The Room You Actually Shot In
Captured an impulse response on set? CleverPan extracts its early reflections — the acoustic fingerprint of that specific space — and lets you place your sound inside it. Not a generic room. Not a reverb tail. The location you were actually standing in.
Send level scales automatically with the Far parameter, full independent control, fully automatable.
Depth and Reverb, Independently Controlled
The distance CleverPan creates and the space your reverb adds are two different things, and they should stay that way. Send to Rev routes a proportional signal to your external reverb bus as a sound moves further away, so the room opens up naturally, without ever locking depth and reverb together.
Built on the Stem You're Already Working With
Most dialogue, effects and ambience stems are built and delivered in stereo — it's the standard working format before the final multichannel pass. CleverPan gives a mono element its position and depth inside that stereo stem. It doesn't replace the multichannel spatialization that happens later on the master bus or in Atmos — it prepares the material that goes into it.
